- Datang Telecom will soon launch the TD-LTE (Time Division-Long Term Evolution)/TD-SCDMA (TD-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) dual-mode chips, the China Business News reported on June 10. Being the first of its kind in the industry, this dual-mode chip can be used in mobile phones and data cards. TD-LTE products currently available in the market are all based on TD-LTE single-mode chips. Prior to the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, China Mobile selected Sequans Communications to supply TD-LTE single-mode chips and USB (Universal Serial Bus) dongles for the TD-LTE demonstration network at the World Expo. The chip operates on the 65nm low-power CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) process technology.

 

- China Mobile plans to launch a batch of Smartphones and feature phones operating based on TD-SCDMA network with a price tag around 1,000 RMB (US$147.1; US$1 = 6.8 RMB) and 500 RMB (US$73.5), respectively, the chinabyte.com reported on June 10. Prices of these TD-SCDMA Smartphones and feature phones are already equivalent to the prices of GSM (Global System Mobile Communications) phones with like features and are lower than the prices of WCDMA (Wideband CDMA) phones. Under its rollout plan, China Mobile also will increase subsidies for users who purchase value-line and/or mid-range TD-SCDMA Smartphones throughout 2010. To date, China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) has approved around 300 TD-SCDMA network access licenses.
